Fixpoint 51123 Solder, Lead-Free, 1.0mm Diameter, 250g Reel

This is a lead-free solder that is ideal for electrical and electronic work and includes small amounts of silver and copper with the remainder tin. Although its flow or 'wetting' properties are similar to lead-based alternatives, they will differ and may enforce changes in working style. Unlike lead-based products which normally do not corrode the tips of soldering irons, this will if the tip is not properly cleaned when hot to remove surplus solder and flux residues. A dampened sponge is one of several approved methods, and a wire-coiled wiping ball is another.Apart from the immediate environmental benefits gained by the removal of lead, it also removes impurities such as cadmium and arsenic that are also injurious to health and commonly found in the recycled lead obtained from old car and lorry batteries which was commonly used in the manufacture of solder.With a 250gm reel such as this, it may appear to be a lot but solder is heavy and it doesn't last very long once you start using it. This is 1mm in diameter which is thinner than the 2-3mm diameter solders that are more common, but is better suited to fine work. For heavy or commercial users, a 1Kg reel is also available from the same source but is probably best for workdesk use than to carry around in a repair kit due its larger bulk and weight.
