Great Start
This simplifies fitting by teaching you to use your body measurements to compare your shape against the commercial pattern's standard. The pattern makers use an "average" form. Most people deviate from this average but haven't a clue in which ways. The book has you take each body measurement and compares it against the pattern's "standard" form. This comparison illustrates which deviations from the standard you have(sloped shoulders, broad shoulders, long waist, rounded back, wide hips). This comparison illustrates what fitting adjustments need to be made to commercial patterns. Based on this information you use 1 of 3 methods to alter the fit. One method is pattern fitting. You put the tissue pieces together to make the paper garment and try it on. You can then determine where any changes need to be made. Second method is using your body measurements to mark and measure out your body requirements against the pattern so as to make it smaller or larger. The 3rd method involves altering as you sew. There is one thing VERY IMPORTANT in mentioning, this book does not help you to make a sloper, muslin, bodice, or any other sort of test garment tailored snuggly to your own form. I bought it hoping that it would. It's still a very good and practical start to fitting.

Truly the Best Perfect Fit book on the market
If you want to learn to alter your garments before you sew them together and get a tailored fit, do not let this book get away from you. It is the best alteration and fitting book that I have every used and I recommend it to all of my students and friends who want to learn to sew garments that fit perfectly without bagging, slouching and pulling in the wrong directions. The book deals with all body types and fitting issues. You will also learn the proper terms to use to describe the fitting issues and the illustrations in the book are easy to understand.I cannot say enough about the benefits that a seamstress for designer will gain from the information in this easy to follow "how to" book.I hope you can get one for your reference library.

My absolute favorite fitting book
This is my "go to" fitting resource. I love this book so much that I have 2 copies. It has actual pictures of the fitting issues instead of explanations or line drawings. It also shows photos of how the garments should look after they are fixed. It has photos of the different steps to make the alterations as well. If I could only keep one fitting book, this would be the winner. I have a TON of different fitting books, so that is saying a lot.

Great Sewing Instruction book
Love all the singer books. They are all well done with fantastic explanation about how things are done and pictures that help a person understand the instructions as well. I have never been disappointed with a Singer sewing book. This book is more for someone just beginning to learn fitting, not for the expert, in my opinion. But if you can sew a little this book will be most helpful for you to begin learning fitting.
