Will this bag hold its shape when empty?

I’ve only used it once so far, but the answer is no, it will not. However, what use is a shape holding empty bag? It will be for shows only. I still give this a 5/5 :)

I'm looking to use it for skating and wonder if it has a firm base? My skates always have blade covers on but it's helpful when there's a firm base

No, it doesn't have a firm base, but it's made from thick material. It doesn't hold it's shape like in the image.

Could a 15" laptop be stored in any of the large pockets?

The short answer is no, anything that size would need to be a pocket at the bottom so you run this risk of breaking it. This bag key, phone wallet. Shoes it can do but I don't use that as it's harder to get things in and out. Be better with a laptop ruck sack or pull along trolly.
