I'm a 58 year old mechanical engineer and love tools. Martor is a great tool company with innovative designs.As a home handyman, I frequently have to stop and catch myself in any cutting operation and ask "Stop. Is what you're doing and how you're doing it safe?"Two weeks ago, I was cutting a small piece of trim with a hand saw. I was supporting the piece on a ladder in an a somewhat awkward position. My hand was a little too close to the cut line. Bottom line, saw jumped out of the groove and I ended up with very nice gash in my thumb. No stitches - but close.My brother, as a teenager, nearly severed a tendon in his thumb using a razor knife.The point of this long winded entry is that it just takes a second of inattention. Martor has a great product. Well thought out. Try it. You'll be pleased and here's to keeping all your digits intact.

I figured out how to take it apart and clean it. I am back to loving it. but............. if you are not mechanically oriented, I would be very carful to clean it. the parts are pretty complex and if the springs come loose; there are two, you may have trouble putting them back. this knife is very persnickety about being clean but if it is clean it will keep you safer from cutting your self.I bought this knife directly from martor. I loved it. Then I cut some stuff that was kind of gooey. A steak I didn't have a steak knife. And some old eletrical tape that got All sticky and gooey. The gooey got into the knife and caused the automatic retract to hang up and hesitate. I can't figure out how to open the knife to clean it. So great knife in till it gets any dirt inside the works then can't clean it....
