I was expecting a couple weeks for delivery, so I ordered my culture at the same time as all my equipment. It arrived yesterday, and I'm still waiting for the seals on the tank I built to dry. Luckily, I ordered the starter kit, which comes with culture medium. All I had to do was take a gallon of distilled water, poor out 1.5 liters, dissolve 52.5 grams of the culture medium powder into the remaining water, then cut the top open just enough to gently place the entire open culture bottle inside. Turns out, after the trauma of being packed like sardines in a tiny, dark, stuffy, bottle for days, they like still waters for a couple days. So, when the culture first arrives, all you need is a gallon of distilled water. Unless you've got nonchlorinated, nonflouride, minimal heavy metal tap water, then you just need a container. I recommend a pH meter, but if you use distilled water and measure the medium mix by weight, you will probably be okay without one. If you're using tap water, I wouldn't risk it. Unless you're positive about your water pH levels I can't wait until it's up and running. One single 4 gallon tank will produce as much O2 as a tomato plant with10 square yards in leaf area. That means a tank of just 40 gallons would be like having an entire football field full of vegetation packed into my one bedroom apartment. And the byproduct from all this wonderful fresh air, spirulina
