Middling plus take on a good idea
Take a group of competent and experienced plus well known actors, many of whom have been in very successful movies, give them a rubbish script, then put them in utterly bland sets with equally bland photography and colour sense, add amateur direction - and you get “Lost Voyage”, 2001. On the other hand, they act really well, and they really do manage to create a sense of tension and dread which is somewhat absent from “Ghost Ship”. The actors actually make the best of a somewhat dull script and dull sets. Could the producers not have gotten an actual luxury liner for a week or two for filming? But this is more like a low budget cargo liner or an old fashioned military ship. No actors do a bad job. This movie fails to live up to the concept of a haunted ship in many ways. Watch “Ghost Ship” (2002) to see what this could and should have been, almost. Also, the script for “Ghost Ship” was being schlepped around from 1996 - and modified as it went. This movie, “Lost Voyage” May seem to have preceded it, but it did not precede the script - and it almost looks as though someone who had read the script for what would become known as “Ghost Ship” and had then churned out a much lower quality script using the ideas of the other. However, you also need to consider “Death Ship” 1980.There’s not too much to recommend in this movie except that it really does generate dramatic tension in ways the other two don’t succeed at so well, even though they look much better and are more interesting. I kept hoping something would show up. Nothing really does. And I feel bad for the actors who put in the on-camera work and come off looking less skilled than they ought to.Movie revisited on 26OCT2019OK: I watched it again, without having watched Ghost Ship recently, although I have watched it repeatedly, as I have this movie. Haunted ships - I just stayed at the Queen Mary in Long Beach! The movie is better than I thought initially, not great, but with acting that is truly acceptable, and sets, while not good if you’re trying to convince your audience these are the interior of a luxury cruise ship, are convincingly nautical. It may not be an enormous surprise, but you really don’t want to be on a “Death Ship”, a “Lost Voyage”, or a “Ghost Ship”.I think entertaining. I think it actually creates more dramatic tension than Ghost Ship does. Worth watching.

Standard made-for-tv horror. Decent, if plodding, "ghost ship" story.
No-longer-young-enough-to-get-ratings young TV "journalist" (Janet Gunn) teams up with trying-to-prove-paranormal-is-real researcher (Judd Nelson) and total Lance-Henriksen type tough guy salvage operator (Lance Henriksen) to investigate a ship that has mysteriously returned after disappearing in the Three-Cornered-Cliche near some Caribbean island called Kokomo.. I mean Bermuda.TV "journalist" had to be aggressive and shady to get this assignment to keep her boss from assigning it to too-young-to-be-credible-but-hot-enough-that-the-boss-doesn't-care intern "journalist" (named "Julie" but probably not "Activity Director Julie" from another horror series about a cruise ship. I'm vague on the details of that show, but pretty sure it was terrifying -- I've blanked out most of the 70's from my memory because it is all too 70's to admit just how 70's the 70's was.. Anyway not-the-activity-director Julie wants no-longer-young-enough young "journalist's" job. They all land on the boat and start researching and "journalizing".The ones you expect to die pretty much die in exactly the order you expect them to. Some people have ham-handedly-foreshadowed moments of personal realization.Spoilers: Noteworthy because it's a 1990 made-for-tv thriller with no explosions. Also, no people fall overboard.Seriously, you could piece this movie together from fragments of every other for-TV horror movie you've ever watched, and run it inside your head with your eyes closed. But watching it on a video stream platform is arguably less work and leaves your hands free to play Rimworld while you're watching it. For that reason, 2.5 stars -- it gets the round-up because no one fell overboard.

Good way to pass the time
As with each person, tastes and interests differ. Some people will like this movie while others will not. I personally did. Story heavy with some dialogue that could have been improved upon, it was otherwise a good horror altogether. It seems like people today want everything thrown into a movie for it to be even a 3 star without attempting to immerse themselves in the story at all without the help of special effects, CGI or special anything. Yes it could have done better, but it could also have done a lot worse. At its core, a movie is a visual story to pass the time and to entertain and this achieved both.

Ghost Ship (2002) is the movie you wanted this movie to be.
I was actually curious if this was a bootleg cash-in on the infinitely better Ghost Ship (2002), but nope. It looks like this one released first (2001) and may well have inspired Ghost Ship to do this plot some justice.I really love the idea, and it got my imagination going about what they would experience on the ship. 1.5 hours later, I gotta' say, the only good stuff was in my imagination. The potential is there--It's just presented so flatly, it has no impact. What I, and I think most people want from a premise like this is exploration of this spooky time capsule. I want to be amazed and creeped out by this anachronistic connection to the past! Show me details of the rooms! This would be like walking around the Titanic--I'm here, more than anything to see the ship!I did get some very nice renderings of the ship's exterior, done by a talented Windows 2000 user, but I was hoping for a little more. The helicopter that was made in MS Paint was cool, but maybe a tour of the ship would have been cooler. Period flashbacks to the vanishing incident, or zombies in 70's clothes. That kind of nifty stuff. All I'm left with is to say, go watch Ghost Ship. When you picked this movie, that's what you really wanted to see. 3 stars because it still kept me interested in the payoff....that would never come.

Lost cause!
Started off well and I thought...hey this is promising (that was of course after watching the trailer). Then after that it went down quicker than the Titanic. Lance Henriksen was wasted...in the literal sense. As for Janet Gunn, paranormally speaking...she can haunt my dingy any day!

Not bad at all!
This movie is not bad at all for a budget movie. I quite enjoy it from start to finish.

Lost Voyage ............ or Lost Plot?
The previous two reviewers have done very good in depth reviews and I have to say I agree wholeheartedly with their opinions regarding this movie.I, too, love the seafaring dramas with a ghostly twist and discovered this one whilst investigating to find others alongside Virus, Deathship and Ghost Ship. The idea of a real Bermuda Triangle based mystery made for a good basis and the filming was pretty good and very atmospheric. The blurb on the box said the ship was the SS Tampa but the actual ship in the movie was the Corona Queen, which did surprise me. The various members of the boarding party have back stories which don't really get explained that well but their deaths are quite well realised without too much gore. The saddest part of the plot is the complete absence of any explanation of the original disappearance of the ship back in the 70's apart from the possibility of a portal into another dimension, which kind of explains the wraith like creatures which appear around the ship as it returns once more to the Triangle's clutches. One of the boarding party is seen as a wraith who takes Shaw's soul but whether that means the wraiths are the crew and passengers who originally were aboard the Corona Queen or whether they are the creatures who consumed those aboard within the "other" dimension again is unexplained and left to the imagination. All in all an enjoyable film but the idea has been better realised in other films and shows. If only the TV show "The Fantastic Journey" could be released on DVD as I recall this was a very good Bermuda Triangle show even if the show was short lived.
