I really like this hair paste. The smell is fine. The texture is great, it holds my hair very well for a good messy look, but it isn't greasy and doesn't have my scrubbing my fingers like crazy after with soap and water like some other products. It's easy to wash off, meaning it's also easy to wash out the hair which is good.It's a really great product, and I don't see myself using anything else currently. I really like the way this product works in my hair and it is very malleable can use more/less for desired looks.

The "Free Hold" is hands down the best hair styling paste. It smells great, people always compliment. It's easy to apply and the packaging is stylish, but more importantly is functional and secure especially when traveling. I have traveled the world and always buy different hair styling products from different countries and nothing comes close to this Free Hold. It's really well made.

This stuff is great! It smells wonderful and gives a nice gritty texture to hair without a greasy look. Just a little dab goes a long way for a piece, textured look.

I got the smaller 'try me' size to see how it would handle my hair. It contains a decent amount of product. Seems to hold well, not stiff, not spiky, but so I can arrange some texture into my hair and have it stay in place. Don't like the smell however, to me it smells masculine.

Been using this hair product for 5+ years now and will never stop...unless they go out of business. This gives your hair a nice natural looking hold without looking like you slapped an abundance of product in your hair. Typically gives me all day hold for about a dime size amount and this stuff lasts since you don't need to use a lot of it. Highly recommend.

I like the hold this product provides, but the fragrance, for me, is just unbearable. I kept thinking it smelled like a grandmother's perfume; a cloyingly floral, bad perfume.

With Murphy's Gritty Business long discontinued and my supply finally running out, I branched out to Free Hold, which is on the less hold side of the Murphy product spectrum which once flanked Gritty Business. With a creamy texture, it spreads smoothly, and while it lacks Gritty Business's hold and matte texture, Free Hold does leave hair soft to the touch to the point where you can't tell there's product in it. With the lighter hold, it'll work best with cuts that only need a little boost. The size is convenient for travel, but also less a commitment if you don't know if you'll like it or not.
