Q: Has anyone used this on the outside of an airplane?

Correct! You would use the adapter that would have come with your go pro as this product is the mount, safety wire, and carrying pouch only.

I feel if your camera is GoPro compatible(which it appears to be) the suction cup mount will fit just fine.
