A great classic of Vedic Astrology and translated with clarifying notes by a great modern astrologer
Saravali of Raja Kalyan Varma is a famous, well known classic of Vedic Astrology. However what makes this edition great is the translations and most elucidating notings given by Sri S Santhanam, a modern day astrologer. The greatest portion of this book is the discussion of various grahas / plants in various rashis / signs. But like classic texts, Sri Kalyan Varma has given the phalam or results without reference to the Lagnas, which may change the results. Thus unless the Lagna is known, these results of grahas in rashis may not be of much use to us since change in Lagnas will change the effects of the grahas in a rashi. So Sri Santhanm has added a most critically important portion to every graha in every rashi - the effect from each of the 12 Lagnas. This makes things extremely clear and amazingly striking to the reader.Sri Santhanam's contributions in respect of his Notes is almost as great as the classic's. He is a modern-day astrologer and has made this classical treatise relevant to our times by giving modern day examples and illustrations. This book in two volumes is a must reading for every student and practitioner of astrology. It needs to be read and re-read times over for a deeper understanding of the intricacies of Vedic Astrology.

I would recommend if you can decipher sanskrit sutra by your own ...
Quite detailed work. It is helpful for both beginners and advanced learners. I would recommend if you can decipher sanskrit sutra by your own (or with the help of translation given) you will get benefitted more with this work. Also it is a complimentary work to Brihat Jataka by Varahamihir. Exceptional work. However when you go through sutra/shloka you'll get some glitches in translation or a complete sutra getting skipped which are explained in detail. So I would again recommend to read Sanskrit shloka along with translation. Best wishes for your astrological learnings.
