Color:Off White, Rust, Olive, Brown, Black Jules Pansu uses Jacquard weave technique. A form of textile art dating as far back in written history as Homer's Iliad, tapestry making is a long-standing tradition in the heritage and culture of France. Since the Middle Ages, weavers in Paris, northern France and the Val-de-Loire regions have created intricate and enduring tapestries that can still be admired in the national museums and castles of France. In 1660, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, minister of finance for Louis XIV, founded Les Gobelins Tapestry Manufactory followed by the Manufacture Royale de Beauvais. The tapestries created at the Gobelins Manufactory, as well as those from the workshops of Aubusson and Felletin, were the finest produced in Europe throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. Tapestries were often based upon the work of famed painters of the day, including Le Brun, Jean-Baptiste Oudry, Charles Coypel and Francois Boucher.  Today, in the workshops of Jules Pansu in Halluin, the company continues to specialize in the Jacquard weave, named after the craftsman Joseph-Marie Jacquard who invented the process and loom that allowed for much greater versatility and artistry in weaving. Magritte was a painter of ideas; a painter of visible thoughts, rather than of subjects. He valued neither lyrical nor the abstraction. He described his paintings saying, My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, ‘What does that mean?’ It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing, it is unknowable.” Magritte was an artist who has always created astonishment, and has remained a major figure of Surrealism. In this collection of pillows, each pattern combines realistic elements and abstract representations: it is a rediscovery of the surreal world, full of magic and mystery!

Caveat Emptor! Beware of knock-offs--buy the genuine article!
This product is not what it purports to be. While it claims to be made by Jules Pansu--the world-famous company in France authorized by Picasso's descendants, the package actually arrived from China. Inside was a poorly made knock-off of a pillow case (no "removable insert" was included which was also contrary to the description). Jules Pansu pillows are finely woven tapestries that go for hundreds of dollars; what I got was no better than an ink-jet print on fabric. And a poorly-colored one at that. Even though it only cost a fraction of the genuine article, I'm still disappointed that Amazon allows listing what is clearly a knock-off product.
