CACTUS CLOTH and a hoofpick.... all you need for a fancy show horse on a muddy desert island
If I were given one grooming tool in order to prepare a show horse, a cactus cloth would be it. Old school horsemen know all about this simple, durable, cheap tool: It is soft and follows contours, so it can be used on the most sensitive areas/sensitive horses. It will take off sweat marks (works great with a bit of rubbing alcohol for the show hunter who needs his saddle mark taken off quickly before he's jogged back into the ring). It takes off mud-- wet or crusty and dry. Combined with some linimment/alcohol mix, the cactus cloth can act like a microfiber cloth that sucks the dust off the top of a horse's coat. The cactus cloth comes stiff, so the best way to break it in is to bathe your horse with it. Same goes for cleaning it.... just use it to shampoo your horse. In general, the stiffness is worked out of the new cloth by wetting it and wringing it in all directions. A cactus cloth with last a decades or so used daily.UPDATE!!Yes to Cactus Cloth, No to this version of it. This one is non-traditional and strange. It's smaller than the usual Cactus Cloths I have bought in the past.. It's bound with nylon (not more of the cactus cloth fiber) and the back has a mesh of the same white, synthetic fiber over it."WTF?" is the phrase that properly applies here. I'm going to send this one back, so I can't tell you how it will function in practice.

fell apart!
I've been using the Bioelements cloth for several years, so I thought I'd try this one to save some money. This was a mistake for two reasons:1- Although it's described for human or horse use, this is faaaaaaar too big for a person to use comfortably. I considered cutting it in half, but I was afraid to mess up the lining. This turns out not to be an issue because...2- This cloth fell apart in just three weeks. The lining is completely ripped off, and the ends are fraying away. I'm not sure how this lasts for more than one use on a horse when it couldn't withstand my feeble human skin.

Not what I had hoped
The fabric is very large as described in listing. I cut it in half to make more manageable. Does a good job getting the dirt off my horse. Just too rigid to use efficiently. I'm only able to really use it on my horse's side and topline.
