Nice and fresh
When I first got my bunnies I was buying small bags of timothy hay from a big box store, expensive right? They also really were not so fond of it.Fast forward 10 months, I had been buying some fabulous clover grass hay from a local feed store that my girls absolutely loved and couldn't get enough of. Which was all good and well until the feed store had different hay when I went to purchase it for the 5th time. Lesson learned, I repeatedly made sure with the feed store that the hay they carried would be consistent and from the same farmer, and always the same hay. I was constantly assured it would be.I had some very unhappy bunnies when they didn't get the hay they loved. One had constant destructive tantrums and I spent a lot of money over the next few weeks buying endless different brands and types of hay until I found one that they would eat let alone actually like.I tried the orchard grass hay in this brand also, they were ok with it, for a change I decided to try the tomothy. It was definitely a vast improvement over the bags I was purchasing when I first got them. This hay is nice and green, it smells fresh when you open it. I've since been ordering 1 to 2 boxes a month, and try to keep a few different varieties on hand, I keep a couple of spare litter boxes scattered throughout my home with a different hay in each, that way they get a variety, even once I can purchase the clover grass hay again from the feed store in big bales, I'll be buying enough to last the year. I will still keep both of the timothy and orchard grass hay from Standlee as treat hay.I really am impressed by the quality.

Your piggie (or other small pet) deserves this!
I've been buying from SPS for a couple of years. They were great at first, but then they stocked up with hay from a different part of the country. My Guinea Pig hates this newer hay, and it has almost no fuzzy flower tops which is his favorite thing in the world. (He'd rather get "fuzzies" than greens!) Despite assurances from SPS, he has never gotten used to the new hay, and after six months has still almost quit eating it. They told me they'd be back to the old hay in the Fall, but that didn't happen. I've been having to buy two boxes at a time: 2nd cutting for the hay, and 1st cutting for the "fuzzies". That's ridiculous! Out of desperation, I tried Standlee, and I'm so glad I did! Chili Bean loves it! He's eating a full rack every day now. I wouldn't say it's as loaded with fuzzies as I hoped, but it has enough, and he loves the taste. Best part is, it's half the price of SPS! So everyone is happy. This hay is much fresher, and you'll smell it the first time you open the box. Give these guys a try.

Reliable, fresh, and a piggy favorite
I've been ordering this repeatedly with Subscribe & Save, and I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed it til now. This hay is top notch! I've never had a problem with the boxes or quality of hay, as some other reviews have expressed. The hay always smells sweet (which is the best indicator of hay quality, if you didn't know), and it's a great supply to last you a couple months (depending on how many animals you own). The dead rat review I'm sure is just an error outside of the company's control; I've ordered this about 5 times now, and I've never seen anything unexpected in the boxes. The rat probably just climbed up in their packing machinery by accident — and this stuff most likely is packaged on a farm, so why would you be so surprised by the fact that there are other small animals roaming around? I'm sure if you reached out to the company, they'd be willing to send out a fresh batch to you.If you're buying this for guinea pigs, I can verify this stuff is great! I have 4 guinea pigs, all of which are different ages and genders, and they all love it. They start wheeking and squeaking like crazy once they hear me rustling around in the box. They'll usually finish the big handful I give them within a few hours.TL;DR – If you're looking for consistently fresh hay to give your animals, this stuff is totally reliable! Give it a go; you won't regret it.

Love this hay!
We ordered this for our Lionhead bunnies because the farm I usually buy from ran out of their stock and ordered hay from another place so they upped their prices. So we went and looked for cheaper options and found these. The hay has been perfect every time. It’s green, clean, cut perfectly, it is packed in there tight, no bugs, looks and smells fresh and we have been very happy with it each time we have ordered it. We found a larger box and started getting that one now and we haven’t been disappointed yet! Great product and great price!

Buns like it but ...
My bunnies is seem to like this hay it's usually pretty good quality and not too much of the shaky bits at the bottom. But I am very much bothered by the most recent box we received. Have probably ordered this over a dozen times but the package I received today is in a short flat long box instead of the normal large square. That large square fit perfectly into my hay holder which is why I really liked this brand, this new shape that it's blocked into is not ideal

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!! RIP OFF! BUNNY WILL GET SICK.
They do not allow returns for beginners and sent hay with fungus that caused a ton of vet visits. My bunny had issues with his eyes, nose and ears. Not to mention the fact that Standlee does not take any responsibility for sending bad batches of hay. They used to send quality hay that was 1st cutting and somewhere along the lines that turned into 3rd cutting and then old, outdated hay with fungus. It's CHEAP FOR A REASON. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! I wouldn't leave a review unless I was concerned about the health of other small animals.

I will never go back to another brand
All bunny owners know that their buns are only going to eat about a third of their hay, as they are picky and only want the choicest morsels. I don't know what it is about this hay but my buns eat almost all of it! Solidly 2/3 or more! I feel like I am getting so much more value for my money, as the hay lasts longer and is actually cheaper than other brands. For years I bought Kaytee timothy hay and I honestly will never go back. I love how fresh this stuff is, how little dust there is, and how much my buns love to eat it! Try this stuff and you won't be disappointed. For reference, I have polish rabbits and american fuzzy lops.
