Excellent book by an Excellent Guro!
Guro Godhania has outdone himself in writing this book. It covers everything you'd learn in an actual Eskrima class or at least the one that I took before redeploying from Iraq. Still, reading a book will not help with becoming an Expert or will it provide a sparring partner. It will cover what you need to know, ie, stances, stick, knife and empty hand positions. It mentions how you can attack, defend, and counter-attack with a variety of different weapons or items that can be used as weapons. It covers a little about simply dodging projectiles by getting out of the way (thats common sense) and also using your stick. It covers solo training and training equipment you can build yourself. It even has a description on where to strike the human body to inflict max pain. It covers areas where to strike with single stick, staff, knife or empty hands. It also covers some throws and locks but the book mainly covers weapons. This book also has a section on double sticking fighting and defense. In my opinion this is the best of the best out of all other fighting systems books out there. Still, dont think you will be an armchair expert only by reading the material. You need to get up off your couch and find a school and use this as a tool for practice with a partner or with solo sparring equipment.

A great book as an overview on the art
A great book as an overview on the art. There is a lack details when it comes to the 'How to' of eskrima. Often the author would state "due to lack of space I will not be covering _______ here. If you want to know more contact a certified teacher" (I am paraphrasing) and then go ahead and fill half a chapter with history and personal stories, that are great, but that was not how the book was described to be. I will say that I enjoyed the history and the photo in the 'how to' sections were clear and easy to understand and that is why I am giving it 3 stars.

Excellent Source for Real Martial Arts Training - A Must Have
Fantastic book and must have for ALL martial arts practitioners. The author explains everything in perfect detail reflecting real life street incidents. I always trained with a punching bag not realizing I'm not training my "reactions or reflexes along with peripheral vision" that's extremely important in a real life defensive system. Author also explains how 1 weapon with the proper training can relate to other weapons as well as bare hand fighting and self defense. I really learned a lot from this book and highly recommend it to all.

An amazing book.
The review of different styles and weapons is great. Overall, you get a good sense of Eskrima and it's development. Solid practice suggestions for both partner training and solo training. The pictures demonstrate the concepts well.

I was very pleased and surprised about the extra coverage of long staff ...
Was unsure about ordering with so many other books on Eskrima but the price could not be beat, so I took a chance. I was very pleased andsurprised about the extra coverage of long staff and two stick drill. Very good for someone who has prior knowledge of Eskrima and just a beginner who wants to refresh his memory and get back into training now that I have the time for it.High ranking TaeKwonDo martial artist.

Useful, thought out pictures
Few can actually learn a martial art from a book alone, that would require a gifted individual. What a book can do is give you enough information to see if one wants to pursue the discipline further, or perhaps to supplement actual training with good frozen moment captures. This book does both well. You get a really good overview of the history and theory of the Escrima system with outstanding stills of the basic moves. Many martial arts books have pictures that are just not that useful but this is an area in which this work excels in. That is, some obvious thought went into selecting the stills used.Couple that with the scarcity of martial arts books for the kindle and I believe this one to be a champ for the price. I have not practiced Escrima in person, but this book makes me want to even more some day.

Great book about FMA
This book belongs in every martial artist/combative system students library. A really well organised book on the history and principles of Eskrima. The author shows his knowledge and dedication of the art through the descriptive words and photos throughout this book.
