The Guinea Pigs Like It, And My Nose Approves
UPDATE: Some of the times I have purchased this product, it was not orchard grass, but timothy hay. I am allergic to timothy hay and also it is a cheaper product with far more chaff that the animals cannot or prefer to not eat. This is not always the case, and the mislabeling may be accidental or due to some cross-contamination.I have three guinea pigs and I am allergic to Timothy Hay. I purchased Standlee's Orchard Grass as an alternative, more for myself than for the pigs, but I was certainly hoping that they would like the stuff. The hay is good on both accounts. I am not getting the stuffed nose and sneezing fits that the Timothy varietal was causing me. Also, the pigs seem to like it just as much, if not more. It is always hard to tell because they can be finicky based on freshness or other matters, but they clearly like this stuff (I have read orchard is slighly sweeter than timothy hay, so they should like it). I have been feeding it to them for roughly 6-7 weeks now, and they continue to like it and seem healthy and happy. I also feed them pellets and fresh vegetables daily. Also, there were hardly any of the harder bits to the hay. I was finding that my pigs did not eat about half the timothy hay I was buying at the pet store, but they eat almost all of this (so less waste and more usable product, which is nice when you are buying by weight). I did also notice that there aren't really any tops here..I imagine there should be some to orchard, but the cut may have been too early? That may also be why there were no hard bits. I believe that the allergic reaction can be seasonal, depending on when and where the hay was grown. I plan on buying Standlee's Premium Western Orchard Grass for my pigs again, because the product looks better than what I see at the stores, it does not awaken my allergies and the piggies like it.

Comparing Standlee Orchard Grass to Kaytee Timothy Hay
I've used Kaytee Timothy Hay for my guinea pigs for over a year now, and was usually pleased with the quality. Our guineas ate it happily--especially the fuzzy seed heads. But I have felt like 30-50% of the Kaytee bag ends up in my compost as inedible hard straw that they wouldn't eat. Also, in half the bags I've bought, there are handfuls and handfuls of dust that are also inedible.Standlee orchard grass seems to have MUCH more edible content. Our little piggies were VERY happy to get this and devoured it eagerly. I can't tell yet if the excitement/enjoyment was due to "Hey! Something different!" or if it was genuinely more appealing. But immediately, I noticed hardly any discarded grass in the cage. They're eating 90% or more! I haven't gotten to the end of the bag yet, so I don't know how much dust is in the bottom--will post that later--but so far, I'm very happy with this product.I plan to mix this with Timothy hay for variety. Also, many have taken photos of dry, brown grass (both with Kaytee products and this one). My box was beautiful. Very long dark green grass. No brown, yet. No dust, yet. Both Timothy hay and orchard grass are natural products, so I think we have to be tolerant of variation in quality through seasons and batches. I'll see how I feel about Standlee orchard grass after a year of use, when I know how much I'm buying for my compost pile.I recommend giving this product a try!

This was my first time trying Standlee Hay Company & I would have no problems with ordering another box!
Fragrant, green, fresh, long strands & a box stuffed with hay makes for 2 EXTREMELY happy/excited piggys! I'm happy they are in hay heaven but here are my issues:1) Dust - I had to shake it out twice before filling their hay bags and it still has more than I like to see but it's been awhile since I've been able to get a 10lb box of respectable quality hay, maybe it's normal?2) Really short, broken pieces (which are trash since the boys don't eat them) - Out of the entire 10lb box I estimate half of a pound will end up in the trash. Still, I can deal with that since I've ended up trashing more hay then being able to use (different brands/farms/companies).3) More brown (dead) pieces than I was expecting - I've learned to always expect some dead pieces with all hay whether I buy from local farms or order online. This had a bit more than I expected it to have but it's not an excessive amount. It took me maybe a minute to pick out ALL the brown pieces from a half pound or so of hay.I ordered the 10lb box of Orchard Grass & that is exactly what I received. I too am allergic to Timothy Hay so I'd have had a immediate reaction upon opening the box. This was my first time trying Standlee Hay Company & I would have no problems with ordering another box of this Orchard Grass when their hay runs low again which I think will be sooner rather than later with the way they're still munching! :p

Great value for great hay!
Lots of hay in this box, I've had it for about a month now feeding my Netherlands Dwarf daily ad libidum and we've only used just under a quarter! Great value for the size and quality hay. Will be buying this again!Comes in a large square box. The hay is packed in really well, nice and dense so there's lots inside, and it's all wrapped up in a large black bag inside so you have an extra layer of protection from moisture/dirt.

I bought this for my Jersey Wooley bunny. However ...
I bought this for my Jersey Wooley bunny. However, I found a decayed mouse in the hay. Hoping my rabbit doesn't get sick. The retailler does offer 30 day returns, but I found the mouse midway through the box, well past 30 days (it's a lot of hay).Anyways, if you're feeding the hay to a non-rodent it may not be an issue, but I'll feed my rabbit Oxbow hay from now to avoid rodent-to-rodent disease transmission.

1st Order. All 3 picky bunnies like it. Smells amazing.
I've had trouble getting my rabbits to eat adequate hay but they LOVE this stuff. It smells amazing and it's fresh. I just ordered 2 more orders of this, so I will update it if anything changes but I had a great first experience. I'm going to have to up the size of my hay feeders since they eat so much extra hay now. :)

Good price but...
Great price and well packed (boxed within a box) but the hay was dusty and had lots of stems. I'll most likely purchase a smaller amount next time.
