Very good story on several levels
bought it for my 13 year old daughter to read over the summer. She had me read it on a long plane flight to Utah. Very good story, its really about a daughter's relationship to her narcissistic mother and the damage her mother has done to her. It deals with growing old, death, deals with growing up and finding yourself. growing up and out of dysfunction. Mature topics for a 13 year old. Oh ya, its about a dog who seeks his purpose in life. The author captures the personality of a narcissist to a T, he has to have some personal experience with one. For those who dont know about narcissists watch some YouTube videos on it before reading the book. They are related to sociopaths and psychopaths only in that they dont have the ability to actually care about others and love someone. Think wicked games by Chris Issac, They are vampires that feed on others.

Even if you don't own a pet you will love it!
There are several books in this series and 2 movies ( so far) . You will laugh and cry your way through them. Incredible! I didn't think anything of this genre could come close to The Art Of Racing In The Rain. I was wrong!

Emotional and Uplifting
Amazing story that delves into the passion involved in loving our animals. I've never cried as hard in so many places in any book I've ever read. W. Bruce Cameron has struck a nerve and tapped into what it means to love an animal. The discussions about end of life and hospice were brilliantly portrayed. I love this book. Highly recommended.
