A must have for a bmw!
You can try to use a common name brand filter but you’ll find out almost immediately that something sounds wrong, go get this brand filter and change it! Hopefully you’ll be fine!

Great replacement filters!!
Awesome filters for my e53 4.4l V8 SUV. It has the top-side oil filter (2001-2003 models with the M62 engine) and so simple for me to change the oil myself with a top-side oil plunger with the suction tube down the oil dipstick.

My Bentley,Range Rover and BMW love these
Always had very good results with these filters with every use, great oil flow and always sturdy looking when I replace them. The pleating on these is very well made as well. Each set also includes the rubber O ring for the filter housing and a copper washer to go between the oil pan bolt and the oil pan housing. Will be purchasing more

Good but not the best
Oil filter reviews are often times extremely opinionated, of which this one is as well, but this filter fits good. I feel as if it is good quality but after using both I will stick with the hengst filter for my 540i. Something about the plastic caps make me feel a little better about it.

OEM filter - just like Hengst
The one I pulled out was a Hengst and it was 100% ready for changing. Similar construction to the Hengst and is also an OEM for BMW/MB/VW/Audi. Just depends on when the car was built and what parts were available at that time. Just as an FYI, it DOES come with the O-ring for the Oil Filter Housing Cap and also a Drain plug washer (which you should ALWAYS replace).
