My Argentinian dad does not approve
It’s very pretty but not a real mate gourd. As soon as I took it out of the box my Argentino dad said “what’s that supposed to be?”It’s ceramic and not double insulated so it gets quite hot to the touch. Something to consider with very hot water.The mouth of the gourd is also very small, so the hot water from the thermos doesn’t always make it into the gourd and might spill onto your hand.It’s also difficult to aim the hot water to one side of the Yerba mate if you want to drink it the correct, traditional way without wetting the all the leaves.It’s very deep despite how small it is - so you need a good amount of mate to fill up the wide bottom part. And you’ll need a long-ish bombilla (mEtAl sTrAw) for it.But… it’s pretty.

Not appropriate to use for hot Mate
The ceramic cup is too thin so the heat from the hot water burns your hand. It could probably work for Terere but the cup is too small for that.

Rough texture & poor functionality
I feel weird about this mate cup. As soon as I touched it with bare hands, I realized I didn’t want to be holding it! Hard to explain, but the outside is not smooth feeling... kind of feels like you’re holding onto sand paper.Besides the feel of it, the top of the cup is so narrow that it’s extremely difficult to make the mate properly (i.e. make the mate mountain, pour dummy water in the water hole, insert bombilla while maintaining mate mountain). If you’re trying to pour water in from a Brita pitcher or anything as big as this, the opening is basically too small to accurately pour. The cup looks cool but does not function as it should. And feels repulsive to hold.

Cute gourd but heats up easily
Very cute! It does get hot very easily and is hard to hold at first since it doesn't have a handle like a mug

not tasty
the outside of the brown color is rough, not confortable and gets hot but the main reason i am returning this is that it does not taste good, the mate washed out quickly and burns my hands when i am holding it
