Authentic recipes from an SCM kitchen
Love this book. It has authentic recipes much beloved by Syrian Christian Malayalis (SCM). So many of her recipes reminded me of my grandmother's kitchen and her food: food I ate as a child. I could almost smell Ammachi's kitchen as I flipped through the photos in gorgeous colour. It has excellent photos of old SCM kitchens our grandmothers/great grandmother's probably used as young brides/young women, where there was always a large vessel of boiling water on a wood fire to make tea for the estate/property workers as they came in staggered shifts for a cup of chai.My gran passed before I got down to cooking in earnest and so I never learnt the authentic mallu recipes from her. Knew only my mom's versions styled à la mom. 😉 So this cookbook is a godsend. Thanks, Lathika.

Good one.
It's a good book. Loads of recipes but lacking pictures which should accompany recipe books, in my opinion. But the author has written snippets of her life and childhod which is very warming to read. Cover is gorgeous.

Authentic Cuisine
This is what a cookbook should be like. With stories accompanying recipes. Just received the book. Couldn't wait to see the book as I had heard so much about it. Wish I could have purchased the hardcover version. Some of my extended family have married into Syrian Catholic families. Familiar with some of the recipes which are authentic representations. Will pass a detailed review later.

Finished the book in one sitting
This has been a great read for cooks and non-cooks alike. Filled with stories, history, travelogues and extremely effective recipes, this is a must have in every cook book shelf.

Beautiful cookbook
I got this as a gift for my mother. She loved it and said it has a lot of the common recipes that we usually use in Kerala plus a lot more. With delish pictures and clear and simple instructions. I hope she has many successful experiments with cooking based on the book!

An interesting read.
Book is a good walk down the memory lane, recipe wise, it’s nothing great or unique. If anything, things have been made unnecessarily complicated. Though I do understand that in the olden days, that’s how things were done.So don’t look at it as a cookery book, because you’ll be disappointed. If you read it like another non-fiction book, then it gives an insight into the Kerala Syrian Christian household.

The Suriani Kitchen
Came on this book in a restaurant (Fusion Bey) in Fort Kochi, Kerala. The recipes in it are superb and very simplistic. I was a little disappointed with the quality of the paper used for this version but it’s exactly the same content as the one I read and took photos of in India and the paper to me is immaterial. Authentic southern Indian food made easy.
