Kumiko also
This is a great book on the cherished art of Kumiko. I have studied this years now and only now have started to create it.For those of you above, YouTube is loaded with different variations of Kumiko, and especially an artist by the name DsKing I believe but I believe it to has different variations. Des King and along that line. He puts out like 12 or 13 highly intense books with very indebth diagrams well worth the money, all on Amazon and Kindle. And this Gentleman mentions him in this book. You don't need to go anywhere near as independent as Mr. King but he is definitely worth watching on utube and at least paying for the diagram books. It's a wealth of information.

Detailed and artistic book that’s easy to read and follow.
This book is near flawless and loaded with crucial information on various types of kumiko patterns, how to do them and even has instructions on making the guides/jigs that would allow one to make kumiko patterns. Matt has a keen sense of simplicity and usability that I find most appealing about this book. It’s filled beautiful pictures of his work as well as very readable clear page layout with near flawless instructions. You can tell that the author put a lot of thought and time writing this book with detailed panel frame drawings with helpful terminologies, sizes, angles, etc. Couldn’t recommend this book more - it is everything I wanted to have in a book about Kumiko and it’s as visually pleasing through and through as it is detailed. I love it!

Trying to understand
This book is actually super great for a beginner, but I'm not exactly sure what some of the things in it mean. What's in the book that I don't quite understand is everywhere in the grid patterns it has a 1x or a 4x and different numbers for other patterns in the book. Would anybody be able to tell me what the 1x and 4x means. This is the holding hands pattern.I also wanted to know what the 1-1-1-1 means under the pattern parts as well as 1-1-1 and then 1-2-1.And the last thing I wanted to know Is how long am i supposed to make the strips because it doesn't say what length to make them.

The best book on Kumiko I could find
I first learned the “how to” part of Kumiko from Michael Pekovich’s books. From his instructions I was able to make my first Asa No Ha.It was so much fun I wanted to explore it more, which led me to this book.I wanted to address the review that questioned the part in the book where the pattern calls for 1x 2x and 4x etc. with no explanation. It simply means whatever spacing you use for 1x needs to be 2x as much or 4x as much. If the smallest spacing was 1” then you would need 2” and 4”. This allows you to make your own decision on sizes.

Great book with one caveat
The book is well written, and gives very easy to follow instructions. Although I haven’t made my first kumiko project, I feel confident I will be able to do so successfully. The one, and only annoyance I have is the book is described as learning to make kumiko with hand tools. As a hand tool only woodworker this appealed to me, that is until in the first chapter he describes using a table saw to make the strips and other various power tools. Luckily, there are a few YouTube videos that show the process of making your strips by hand. This alone would not stop me from purchasing this book again, as the remaining information is superb.

Interested in making Komiko - This is your book
Matt Kenney breaks down the technique and jigs necessary to make wonderful Komiko patterns. The book takes a graded approach, starting with more class, "easy" patterns, and graduating to designing your own. In a time when in person classes are not possible, this book is there to guide you, always somehow identifying the helpful tip or clue just as you need it.
