Q: Picture says it can hold 8 pounds. Description says no more than 3. So. Which is it?

Since my sword is only about three pounds, I put a 10 pound weight on the hanger to test it for you. It held the 10 pound weight with no problem, so 8 pounds would be the correct answer. I wanted to add a photo, but this site only allows videos, so you'll have to take my word for it.

Q: How far do these stick out from the wall? I'm trying to figure out if they would fit inside a shadow box.

The bracket sticks directly to the wall. It would probably work fine in a shadow box.

Q: Can this hang a wooden shield?

Yes, I would think so. There is a larger size that might be better. Note they are not rigid, they are flexible so you can bend them around what you are hanging. Assuming your shield has a handle in the back I would think you could hang from there.

Q: What kind of metal is in these hooks?

Feels like thick steel wire dipped in a rubbery grip coating. Strong but slightly adjustable.
