Q: Will this fit a regular 5 gallon jug with the longer neck and a twist off cap?

It should. I use the 3 gallon long neck with twist cap and the cooler is designed to hold either 3 or 5 gal. It is a great little cooler!

Q: Is there an electric hum? Or does the heater turn on and off all the time? I want to put it on my nightstand.

I have mine on my night stand in my college dorm. The hum is tolerable and not too loud. When the heater comes on, it sounds like a muffled boil.

Q: What is height with 5 gallon water bottle on top?

With a 5 gallon jug, which is 19.5 inches added to the 19 inches of the unit = 38.5 inches. However about 3 inches are inserted in the spout receiver. Figure 36 inches to be safe. I use the Zero Water Jug
