Which blades are best for shih tzu?

It really would depend on what sort of clip (length) you want for your dog. Most pet owners seem to like a shorter body, slightly longer legs so if that is what you are looking for I would suggest a 5F for the body especially in the colder weather, and if your dog has a thick coat or feels the heat you can use a 7F in the warmer weather. The legs are probably better scissored, but you could try a 3 or 4 if you don't want to do this. If you just want the whole dog clipped off including legs, then use the 5F. I clip a Cockerpoo and the owners have the legs clipped as well. I think it's too much and he looks a bit scalped, but it depends on what sort of look you want!

I have a toy poodle but don’t want to trim him too short, I’ve been told to use a 3f. Is this correct and what does the f mean? Thank you

In our Poodle set we suggest using the no 5 (6mm) and no 4 (9mm) skip tooth blades - these are the type of blades which leave a natural finish and are ideal for thicker and curly coats. The F blade will have a full row of teeth and leave a nice smooth finish, so you can use these after a skip tooth. I have a Maltese and want the longest comb as I don't want his hair short, whats the difference between 2 and 2 f, please X

Hi 2 skip tooth blade are used for rough cutting wider teeth to help feed, a thick coat and excellent for coat thinning 2F ideal for a sharp show finish good to use after 2 skip blade. Blades that are also used for your breed of dog (Maltese) are - 10F=1-6mm blade for face and back, for sanitation purposes, 4 skip tooth = 9mm coat thinning blade, 5 skip tooth 6mm also coat thinning blade I hope this all helps, regards maz.

Am I right in thinking the higher the number the shorter their cut ?? Is a 7 shorter than a 5 ??

As a professional dog groomer ordering new blades i ordered just 1 to see how it performs after reading the negatives, well manufactured brand new blades such as these will only work on well serviced smooth running machines, don’t blame the blade.! Check your machines.!Today this blade has worked perfectly in my busy grooming centre, along side the oster blades, cannot fault it at all. It’s cut beautifully without problem.In this day n age where the price of everything is on the rise, I’m glad to have found this supplier where saving a few extra quid can only be a good thing.From one small business to another I will definitely purchase here again.Updated August 23’ I’ve now ordered a further 3 blades off this company and have added pictures of the clips these blades are capable of…… there’s no room in my busy salon for under achieving blades…. As I stated before, if these are not cutting properly, I would suggest having your machines serviced. I use Oster machines on which the blades run extremely smoothly. My machines are serviced regularly to maintain good cutting ability. These blades are AAA+ and cut like a hot knife through butter….the pictures are of cockapoos and a doodle, but they also work on all spaniels and Westie’s….. all coat breeds….don’t hesitate to purchase them, ignore the bad reviews off folks not utilising them properly……

Blunt. Poor finish on coat, struggling to cut through hair. Better with comb attachments for leaves an untidy finish. Not impressed. Used masterclip blades before and always been fine

With being a dog groomer I always buy andis blades but decided to try these but was a bit disappointed as the blade was blunt and not as sharp as I'm used to im not sure if I would swap from andis in the future
