Mace Stun Gun for Self Defense - Rechargeable, Bright LED Light, High Voltage, Self Defense for Men & Women

I assume this is worth 5 stars but I have never used it on anyone to know the degree of effectiveness. I carry it when I go out for a stroll with my walker. As a senior citizen I just feel safer carrying defense; I also carry a nice big vial of pepper spray. If I go down, it'll be spraying and zapping. Also may work on loose dogs. So far I have never used either the pepper spray or zapper.What I LIKE: It plugs in easy to the wall socket for recharging. The plug-prongs retract after removing from wall so not in the way. It stays charged for a long time but I don't know exactly how long-a few weeks is my guess. I charge it about every 2 weeks; when I charge it, it is still loaded and has not exhausted its spark. I fire it to make sure it is alive, it crackles and a very short streak of lightning comes out. I keep it on my nightstand when not on a walk along with the pepper spray. When walking alone and I hear one of those many 'funny' noises in the evening, I place one device in each hand and still guide the walker, really ready if something happens, rather than fishing for the devices after-the-fact. Writing this makes me see how defensive I am.What I DO NOT LIKE: Made in China.

My spouse is a city letter carrier for the USPS. She often covers for the rural department and travels in some sketchy areas, delivering to homes with dogs that are randomly loose, and people who seem unfriendly or nefarious. She asked for a stun gun, which i readily agreed to purchase for her. We tested it and this product has enough voltage to make a statement but not seriously harm an animal or person. It fits perfectly in her pocket and in her hand within the pocket. She hasn't had to use it on the job, and we hope she doesn't, but it provides a sense of protection she wouldn't otherwise have.

Love the size-fits comfortably in my hand and easy to maneuver.

I got this for my wife. She quickly noticed that the pointed metal electrodes seemed "loose". When she picked at it gently, the knurled screws holding the electrodes literally fell out. Inspection showed that the screws were not screwed into threaded metal ferrules, but instead into PLASTIC! Unbelievable. Contact with a moving assailant would probably quickly remove the screws and the electrodes. I would have returned the product, but return UPS charges made me decide to repair it myself with a good Super Glue. The unit works great following the repair (which should have been unnecessary). My wife was disappointed that the unit did not have a wrist strap with a safety pin to disable the unit if snatched from her. Also, the carrying case is a VERY tight fit. We'll see how that works out over time.I really hated to write this negative review, but this design flaw could make this product useless when needed most. I've always had confidence in MACE brand products, but this one was a disappointment.For those that ask "What contacts the electrodes?", the answer is that each electrode has a thin multi-stranded wire that exits the same hole that the knurled screw enters, wherein the bare ends of the wire lie flat in contact with the electrodes and the knurled screw. Note that in use, both the electrodes and the knurled screw will apply voltage to an assailant.

This stun gun is small, compact, easy to activate and use, and powerful enough to help in the event you may need critical seconds to escape possible dangerous situations. I can't speak for any and all cases but 3 to 4 seconds following an initial 1 to 2 second stun, you could possibly have time to fend off an attacker, and escape the danger. I highly suggest you read the instructions carefully before using or attempting to use this item. The life you save could be your own.
